Flemish SDG Business Ambassadors Visit Flanders House in New York to Strengthen Commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals

This week, from 14-18 July 2025, a working visit took place in New York as part of the "SDG Business Ambassadors" initiative, a joint effort by Voka – Flanders’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry – and CIFAL Flanders, affiliated with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). This visit marked an- important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Flemish businesses and global partners to accelerate sustainable development.

Through the Voka Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship (VCDO), Flemish enterprises are actively integrating the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their operations. This structured, step-by-step approach enables companies to progressively earn recognition as an SDG Pioneer, SDG Champion, or SDG Ambassador. Each certification level deepens the strategic integration of sustainability—from internal anchoring to transformational business model innovation and, ultimately, to an internationally aligned sustainability and due diligence policy.

Voka works closely with CIFAL Flanders, the Brussels-based international training center focused on the SDGs and human rights. As one of 33 global CIFAL centers under the umbrella of UNITAR, CIFAL Flanders supports public and private leaders through training, coaching, and project development. Their mission is to advance sustainability knowledge and capacity across Flanders, Belgium, the EU, and beyond.

By engaging in this certification journey under the guidance of Voka and CIFAL Flanders, companies not only enhance their societal and environmental impact, but also reinforce their international credibility and competitiveness.

The visit to New York provided an opportunity for Flemish SDG Business Ambassadors to connect with international stakeholders, share best practices, and reaffirm their commitment to sustainable entrepreneurship on a global stage.

As part of their program, there was also a Side Event at Flanders House. If you want to learn more about it, please visit following link: https://www.instagram.com/p/DMLMa3yRjKZ/
